You could never View|Zoom, not even in 1.0 (and also not in 1.1 and current
builds). The fact that you could zoom via mouse was a bug - this possibility was
explicitly disabled with the internal bug 100689.
So, what's left is that inplce objects cannot be zoomed - so it works as
designed.
