This issue is not closed yet.
But I had not written that I use the German version, which surely is essential.
Answers to your questions:
1) I loaded it down from
ftp://ftp.solnet.ch/mirror/OpenOffice/contrib/rc/2.0.0rc2/OOo_2.0.0rc2_051005_Win32Intel_install_de.exe

2) The checksum is correct (so it doesn't matter anymore where I loaded it down
;)
3) The folder you named didn't exist yet because I still worked with OO 1.1.4.
Anyway I deleted this folder, but it still didn't work.
4) no, the username is caliaro and so has no special characters
5) I also tried to switch off DEP (Data Execution Prevention), which is on by
default only in the 64-bit version. Still crashes.
Step-by-step: I press "Next" in setup.exe until it asks for the type of install
(full or by selection). If I select full it crashes. If I select modules it only
crashes after I say which ones I want to install. It even crashes if I deselect
all modules (this is odd, isn't it...).
In case you should need the Windows Error Report, I can attach it if could be of
use for you.
