OBR: /var/tmp is not cleanup up by any Unix system I know - I think the best 
location depends on the 
amount of data store - e.g. in Solaris, /tmp is mapped to RAM, so writing tons 
of data to it will cause the 
system to swap. But we need to take care of cleaning up temporary data anyway, 
so why treat Mac OS 
different here ?
