Issue *doesn't* exist in OOo 1.9.74 under Linux. Many formatting issues such as this one have been fixed in the upcoming OpenOffice 2.0 ( of which 1.9.74 is a developer build ). If you *need* to have the document render correctly, you could try the latest developer build of OpenOffice ... but we warned that it's not completely stable yet.
