I was unable to confirm this issue as well. Using OOo 1.9.74 on Windows 2000 SP4
I followed these steps.
1. Saved the image from http://huberman.org to a GIF on my machine.
2. Opened a new Writer document, clicked Insert > Picture > From File. Inserted
the downloaded GIF.
3. Saved the file in SXW format.
4. Clicked the Export to PDF button. Exported the doc to a PDF file.
5. Opened that PDF file in Acrobat Reader (6.0.1 11/1/2003). The image appeared
as I would have expected. It looked just like the SXW file in OpenOffice had
appeared.
