My conclusion is: RELYING ON NFS FILE LOCKING FOR AN APPLICATION THAT SUPPORTS MORE THAN ONE SPECIFIC NFS IMPLEMENTATION WILL NEVER WORK. The comments to the effect that this will need thought and review are accurate. A very large amount of time and effort have gone into this over the past 30 years or so.
