With the example

at the end we will ... the writing ends with ... is this the end?

in MS Word, searching for end? using wild cards brings up

end [end with a space]
ends
end?

In other words, it does not treat ? as only for letters but for any character.
Regular expressions are not used by mainstream office users, and frankly, the
many users don't like / won't use the help, especially if it is difficult to
understand. I note that using regular expressions with '.' means ? in wildcards
- can't the two simply be translated between? I can't see any way of
representing a*c that finds, say, 'adam' and 'abdhdhgc' using regular
expressions...
