If I start OO Base and open a spreadsheet database, all characters come out OK (after all, HSQL uses utf-8). However, if the database is already open and I want to paste a table into it using spreadsheet data, select that sheet, copy it from Calc with ctrl-c and paste it into Base with ctrl-v (one must be viewing the tables in order to do this), characters like the opening and closing quotes, both single and double, as well as other unicode characters, such as Hebrew does not paste properly.
