I have now repeated this behavior on SuSE 9.1 and OOo 1.1.4.

I am guilty of incomplete testing, though, as I didn't create a new set of
documents, but used the same (sub) documents that had been created on Win98 and
OOo1.1.4.

There appears to be no workaround except to not use alternating page styles or
to style both pages the same and start with the "left page" style after the
"first page" style.  Personally, I think a lot of ground would be gained by
using the more normal "even/odd-numbered pages" nomenclature.  It doesn't bother
me, but judging from comments on the list(s) there are many who are either
dyslexic or ambidextrous and have difficulty with the translation.  ;-)
