First we tried to reproduce the bug in Open Office 1.9.74 since the last
comment on the bug was made in version 1.1.2. The bug appears to be present in
this version also. Following runpingâs excellent sets of follow-up tests we
decided to run a ratio test, that is width/height. For example the ratio for
the image that is producing the bug is: Width / Height = 1155 / 685 = 1.68. We
created images with different widths and heights but with the same ratio. The
following table summarizes the results.
Width Height Ratio(Width/height) Results
168 100 1.68 Bug not present or not apparent
1680 1000 1.68 Bug not present or not apparent
1155 685 1.68 Bug not present or not apparent
>From this point on we noticed that the ratio was not triggering the failure.
Even more important, the dimension of the image were not the determining
factor for triggering the bug because we created a image that had the same
dimensions as the problematic image and still no bug was triggered.
From here we moved to another aspect of the image, the resolution. We
observed that the problematic image has a resolution of 254dpi. So we went
along and added the resolution to our previous tests.
Width Height Ratio(Width/height) Resolution Results
168 100 1.68 72dpi Bug not present or not apparent
168 100 1.68 254dpi Bug Present
500 500 1 24dpi Bug present very apparent

This bug seems to be present when loading any document that has an image set
as background without the link option selected. When the resolution of the
image in the background distances form 96pdi (Windows default screen
resolution) in either direction the image is scaled larger and the bug is more
apparent.
An image with a resolution of 254dpi is common amongst designers that produce
images such as logos that will be printer on to banners where their size will
be blown from the original several times.
