2005 -------
Quite frankly, it does not really matter if you put it in ~/library/appplication
support/, ~/library/preferences/ or just in ~/library/. All manner of OSX
application have used each of these.

The most important is that it goes  inside the ~/library/ hierarchy and becomes
a visible folder like it should be on the mac. Just pick one, document it and be
done with it.
