2005 -------
This addition to my earlier report will hopefully lead to a better understanding
of the defect reported earlier. The problem was further tested only with #10
envelopes in the local HP 970cse printer attached to the test system. Both .sxw
and .sxg files were tested.

Applicable test system software:
Mandrakelinux release 10.1 (Official) for i586
        Kernel 2.6.8.1-12mdk on an i686 (Win4lin patched)
        OOo 1.1.4 for Linux
        foomatic 3.0.1-0.20040828.1.1.100mdk
        CUPS-1.1.21-0.rc1.7.4.101mdk
        CUPS-drivers-10.1-0.2mdk

Additional test proceedures:
The âpureâ Linux tests performed earlier were tested and
confirmed to behave
as previously reported.

The Windows version of OOo 1.1.4 was loaded onto the Win4lin submodule (WIN
98SE) on the test system. When using the Linux printing subsystem (default
local printer), the defect was present. When using the HP 98x Windows driver
(local-raw printer), the defect was NOT present. In other words, the
Windows
version of OOo 1.1.4 is capable of displaying the same defect noted in the
Linux version, when print drivers are changed.

Conclusion:
The defect appears to be in the Linux software downstream from OOo-either the
foomatic spooler (PPD?) or CUPS.

Suggestion:
Since there is a long and varied history of related problems in OOo, I would
suggest the addition of a feature, which-in addition to allowing mirroring, 90
degree rotation, etc. of a document image - also allows for a 180 degree
rotation of the document image.
