Ok, I also did another test and I found out very interesting things ...
- Merge 100 records of a 1000-address-query (based on a 6000-address-database)
  > takes about 3 min.
- Merge 100 records of a 6000-address-database itself
  > takes approx. 21 sec.
For I didn't look for the memory consumption explicitly in my last tests, I've
got to rectify that memory consumption is stable now - sorry.

Seems that it's the query :-( But what to do now?

Test was done with:
- 9 database fields and some hidden text and hidden paragraphs
- Data source: .sxc spreadsheet (but the same with .ods)
- OpenOffice.org: 2.0.1rc5
- OS: Windows XP home
- Target: PDFCreator (fake printer)
- Hardware: 2000MHz CPU, about 768MB RAM

And now the most surprising thing:
When I reduced to three database fields, it took only about 20 sec. in the
query :-(
I now tested much more and found out, that it has to do with the format of the
database fields. Seems that mail merge doesn't like database fields with number
format while using queries. Did anybody already come across with this?
I think I'll open a new issue – thanks for your help!
