To reproduce:
Set 'Before' and 'After' text for paragraph numbering to 'B' and 'A' 
respectively
Set 'Numbering' to 'None'
(Note the preview correctly shows 'BA Preview')

Click OK and you will find the BA label is not shown for the paragraph.

This numbering technique is the easiest way to get labelled paragraphs such as
lines in a play script and works in MS Word and OOo1.1
