I then saved the document as ODT (OpenDocument) and quickly managed to fixed the layout to match the original screenshot. It worked really well. I then saved as .doc and tried to view with MSOffice (roundtrip). The layout was in a worse situation from what OOo was in earlier. That is, the roundtrip appears not to work. Is this an issue with MS withholding the details of the Office document formats? My short term solution with these issues is to save as ODT (OpenDocument) and manually fix the layout.
