A simple utf-8 file containing complex character crashes oowriter2 in 2.0.1,
Locale is es_ES.UTF-8

file /tmp/multilingual.txt
/tmp/multilingual.txt: UTF-8 Unicode text

oowriter2 /tmp/multilingual.txt
Switch table size to 48675 from 97351
...
<<<crash and recovery dialog>>>

LC_ALL=es_ES oowriter2 /tmp/multilingual.txt (default ISO-8859-1 encoding)
the file is opened incorrectly, as if it was ISO-8859-1 and not UTF-8

Also, File->Open (use File type to select "Text Encoded (OpenOffice.org
Writer/web)") and select the file, will offer a dialog with the right options
filled in, and pressing Enter will open the file correctly.
