Create a 3x4 (or larger) table. 2. Split a cell (say B2) vertically. 3. Drag the middle border to one side, so that it is no longer in the exact center. 5. Split the cell below (in this example, B3). 6. Now try to align the middle (vertical) borders of the two split cells. >> Drag the borders with mouse. >> Set column widths numerically in the Table > Table properties command. None of this will work. ******************* The attached sample file illustrates both cases. I think the summary needs to be modified to reflect the fact that the column alignment is a general problem; not limited to merged tables.
