Setup:

Client:
- MacosX 10.4.4
- X11 1.1 XFree86 4.4.0 provided by Apple
- OpenOffice 2.0.0 and 2.0.1

Server:
- SuSE Linux 9.3
- Samba 3.0.13
- Netatalk 2.0.1

I use Samba to mount a drive to my Mac desktop. For my paper work I want to use
OpenOffice.

OpenOffice can't recognize the drive that appears on the Mac desktop. However,
this is not the
problem. The drive is mounted under /Volumes/drivename.

Problems:

1) When I open the mac file browser and double click on an OpenOffice, open
office starts up and an
error appears:

"Allgemeiner Ein-/Ausgabefehler beim Zugriff auf /Volumes/drivename/myfile.ods"
Translated this is something like "General input/output error when accessing
/Volumes/drivename/
myfile.ods"

2) Ok, I try the OpenOffice filebrowser. I start OpenOffice and try to open the
document. I browse to /
Volumes/drivename. No problem so far, OpenOffice shows me the filelist etc. I
select the file and try to
open it.

Same error message.

3) I create a new document and try to save it to the network volume. Again,
OpenOffice has no troubles
navigating through the network drive, however when saving I get the following
error:

"Fehler beim Speichern des Dokumentes Ungenannt1: Allgemeiner
Ein-/Ausgabefehler beim Zugriff auf
/Volumes/drivename/myfile.odt"
Translated: "Error when saving the document untitled1: General input/output
error when accessing /
Volumes/drivename/myfile.odt"

What is interresting is the fact that the file gets actually created on the
server, but it has zero bytes in it.
So it is not an access rights issue or something.

I used Samba as protocol. I red in a bug something about locking issues with
NFS, so I made sure that
the Samba locking is enabled using "lock directory = /var/lock/samba" and
"share modes = yes". No
effect.

I also installed Netatalk which delivers the files using Apples AFP protocol
insted of Samba. No effect.

I found no hints in samba or netatalk logfiles, I found no additional
informations from OpenOffice
(found no logfile with more verbose information).

I guess it is related to

Thanks for any hints or fixes.
