All ctrl-cursor metas should have a similar action. So it should do something
analogous to what ctrl-left/right does (or, conversely ctrl-l/R should do
something analogous to ctrl-up/down).

Ctrl-l/r moves the cursor one word l/r - to the next logical unit greater than
one character. Ctrl-shift l/r selects one word l/r.

Ctrl-u/d should move the cursor to the start/end of the paragraph - ie to the
next logical unit greater than one line. Ctrl-shift u/d should 1st select from
the cursor position to the top/bottom of the current paragraph, then select next
paragraph u/d. (that is, they should be mapped by default "to paragraph
begin/end" and "select to paragraph begin/end").

The action of Ctrl-u/d, which actually modifies the text, is inconsistent with
the action of ctrl-l/r which only moves the cursor. They should be consistent.

Currently ctrl-shift u/d are table navigation commands - which is doubly
inconsistent with uses of the shift/ctrl-shift+cursor meta.

I find it surprising that there are default mappings to navigate by almost
everything (word, column, page) but not by paragraph.

The functions are already there, so this shouldn't involve any extra coding,
just a change to the default assignment of these four meta keys.
