As far as I know, all anchor objects in Microsoft Word are anchored at a character or are treated as a character - column anchor doesn't exist in Microsoft Word. But in Microsoft Word the horizontal position of an anchored object can be relative 'to column' - default horizontal position, even if the is no table. This horizontal position is mapped to OOo horizontal position relative to 'paragraph area'.
