I have to disagree (well, I would, wouldn't I?) - the person with whom I'm
exchanging documents has explicitly asked me to use different colours for
different levels of edit; hence my request. I didn't ask for this to supersede
the existing user-based change colours, but to add to them.

What I had in mind was an extra option in the Tools|Options....|changes menu (a
check button maybe) which allowed you to keep the colour for previous changes
while changing it for subsequent ones. The "By author" should of course stay.

Maybe I should put a note in the forum to suggest this and see what level of
response there is.

But it's definitely desired and useful to at least one user :-)>
