*** Workaround

Operating System : Windows 98
Ooo version: 2.0

1. Launch OoWriter via your Windows(R) "Start" button.

Start->Programs->OpenOffice.org2.0->OpenOffice.org Writer.

2. After creating your default template, open it (shortcut Ctrl-N):

File->New->Text Document

3. Open an Explorer window and go to your C:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW folder and rename
the file "soffice.odt" to something like "soffice-old.odt".

4. Go back to your OoWriter window and save your "Untitled" document as
"soffice.odt" in the C:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW folder.

File->Save As->

In the "filename" field in the "Save As" dialogue/window enter:
"C:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW\soffice.odt"

5. Exit OoWriter and try it out. Right click on your desktop,
then select: New->OpenDocument Text. Double click on the newly created "odt"
file. It should contain the settings of your default template.

Enjoy!
