I clicked Help->OpenOffice.Org Help, went to OpenOffice.org Writer, and clicked "Index". I typed "pasting" in as the Search Term. However, none of the subtopics of "pasting" were related to my query. There was no "pasting->unformatted text", "pasting->text formats", or anything else. I tried looking at "pasting->from clipboard", but it didn't contain any information about text formats, or how to make sure that the text was unformatted. Please add an entry to the Help Index about pasting unformatted text, or about changing the format of pasted text.
