Also it's a double to Issue 11802. You can not compare Excels FDile Open Dialog functionality with the one from OOo. Excel is a single Application and does not share any code for the file open dialog with Word. But this is the case with OOo. All applications do use the *same* file Open Dialog. So how should the Office know that you want to open your *.dat file with Calc and not Writer if you do not tell it what filter it should use ? About your complains regarding the display of files after selecting the Text CSV Filter, it's not a bug, it's for user convenience. It makes it easier to open files with the extension *.txt and *.csv. To use the filter in your case, just select the filename first and change the filter selector afterwards or type the filename with the extension afterwards. It could also be a good idea to change the file extension in the software generating the numbers.
