2006 -------
Mozilla, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc (share the same security api) have the
concept of profiles. Access to the private key of a profile is protected by
exactly one password. When you install private keys, then you may be asked for a
password for every key file, because the keyfiles itself may be password
protected. However, after merging them with the certificate and key database of
the profile, there is only the ONE password protection for all keys.
I do not see this as problem, because every user should have its own account.
Then one cannot use the profiles and hence the certificates/keys of a different
user. 
However, you could submit a "Request For Enhancement" with the mozilla guys,
requesting the implementation of a "keywise password protection".
