In long documents it is very helpful to use page styles.

But: Page styles can only be directly assigned to the first page of a document.
This is definitely correct but not intuitive for many users.

It would be very helpful for new users to have a small info box or something
when they try to assign a page style to a page where this is not possible.

Maybe the "help-bulb" will do the job. It should popup and say something about
"why this is not working" and "how to do this properly".
