To answer the initial questions:
The correct Hungarian thousand separator is space not dot. However, dot is
becoming popular and can be accepted. Unfortunately we cannot accept both. For
example on Windows the thousand separator (called Digit Grouping Symbol) is also
the space. Thus Excel uses space. I think the wrong solution was picked by glibc
developers, therefore there might be problems with applications that rely on
LC_NUMERIC settings.
