2006 -------
Initially, I had the standard Suse jre 1.4.2.06_5.i586.rpm which worked fine
with the 32bit 2.0.2 OOo. However, in the 64bit m3 and now m4 version, when
going to Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org/Java, the message box indicated that the
jre was installed but no version would appear in the display area. As
previously discussed, attempting to organize other than Basic macros would
then hang the application.

In an attempt to overcome this problem, I removed jre 1.4.2 and installed the
Suse jre 1.5.0_03_2.x86_64.rpm. This still wouldn't work with the 64bit m4
version and now would cause the same problem with my standard 2.0.2 OOo
install. To overcome this I went and installed jre 1.5.0 32bit version from
the Sun site after reading their note "Linux AMD64 download: Please use the
32-bit version for Java applet and Java Web Start support." I installed this
in /lib/java.

With this installation, the standard 2.0.2 would again work properly and the
64 bit m4 version "discovered" the alternative OSF 1.4.2 jre and overcame the
previously reported problems.

I hope that this is clear.

Regards, Allan
