2006 -------
Every entry foo [ baz ] falls back to the default foo (that is without any
braces). That is the case since the beginning of time (or at least resource
files). If there are no default entries anymore, this fallback can of course not
work.

However this would work if you had the english resource files installed since at
runtime a resource not found will be searched in the english resource.

Anyway, why are there [en-US] entries in resource files ? These should be the
default case, surely ?
