2006 -------
I am currently using 2.0.2 on Win ME. I am trying to install 2.0.3, and the
installation keeps failing at the same point.

I have previously upgraded from 2.0 to 2.0.1 and then to 2.0.2 without
encountering this problem.

The installer extracts the installation files. It asks me to accept the license
and enter my name and organization.

It asks me to choose a Complete or a Custom installation. I choose Custom, and
the selections look the same as what I have been using till now, so I don't
change anything. Under Program Modules, only Writer and Calc are selected.
Under Optional Components, selected items are Graphics Filters, Python UNO
Bridge, and Win Explorer Extension.

On the File Types screen, Word Docs and Excel Spreadsheets are checked. Again,
this is what I have been using before.

The installation then begins. The status bar gets about 3/4 of the way across
its track, and the words "Removing Applications" appear above the status bar.

That is where the installation stops. A small window pops up, saying: "The
feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." It
tells me to enter a path to "openofficeorg20.msi". The correct path is already
entered. Clicking "Browse" proves it. The "Browse" finds file
openofficeorg20.msi right where it should be. But the installer refuses to
accept it.

When I click OK, another error msg pops up telling me that the msi file it found
is "not a valid installation package for the product Open Office 2.0".

At that point I have no choice but to cancel. The next pop-up says: "Error
1714: The older version of OpenOffice.org 2.0 cannot be removed."
