Please correct me, if I am wrong. I think this because I installed the backport of OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 to my Debian Sarge and experienced exactly this problem. If you are familiar with the package management of Debian you could try to use the .deb packages from the official OpenOffice.org Homepage.
