@geki:  Now that I have a closer look at your patch, I have a few
questions/comments (adding Ause on cc, as he might have an opinion, too):

- I would not want to add -fno-omit-frame-pointer for all platforms, but only
for the one where we empirically determined that -fomit-frame-pointer does not
work (i.e., unxlngi6).

- Using CFLAGSEXCEPTIONS seems like a bad hack, taking some variable that by
chance is added to the compiler command line late enough so that it comes after
your -fomit-frame-pointer and cancels it.  How exactly do you enable
-fomit-frame-pointer (special configure, hacked unxlngi6.mk, $ENVCFLAGS, etc.)?
