The problem has reappeared with the original document that was slow (I did not post this one). The circumstances under which the problem occur are rather odd, however there is a hint that it may have something to do with the process of compressing the document. Here's an outline of the steps I have followed: Procedure followed: **Note: autospellcheck is turned off 1. Open the slow document in OOo 680m79 (call it Slow1.ods). 2. Save the document as Slow1.ods. This takes approximately 1 minute, 10 seconds. 3. Perform a "Save As" to Excel 97-2003 format (XLS). This takes approximately 7 seconds. 4. Close all open documents. Reopen the original document Slow1.ods. 5. Open Edit..Find and Replace.., click More and check the option "Search in all sheets." 5. In the "Search for" box put the letter "i". 6. In the "Replace with" box put the combination of letters "ads". 7. Perform a "Replace All." 8. Save the document as Fast1.ods (or any other name). It now takes approximately 30 seconds to save (instead of 70 seconds), even though the the find and replace has created a larger number of total characters. Other facts: > The document with the replacements (Fast1.ods) has a final size of 845,642 bytes in ODS format, but the original document Slow1.ods has a size of 854,379 bytes. > A sample document filled with three small words (unzipped inside the ODS it is 10 MB) takes only 30 seconds to save, with a final file size of 32 KB. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
