After thinking more about this at the weekend, and without the closing time in
my neck :), I think nothing hinders us from defining the semantics of
getCurrentValue, when no validator is present, in a way we want to have it. And
returning a string (or a sequence of strings in case of multi selection) is
surely much more useful than returning a sequence of indexes.
