So I guess the lesson is: more of us should try some of these betas sometimes. For if we let geeks have their way we'd lose much more control. So I promise myself to try here and there more interim versions before they are released... but then one has to know where to look. Who knows what surprises awaits us, what strange decisions will have been made upon the release of a new version?
