2006 -------
I implemented some magic which checks for profiles.ini in ~/.thunderbird (the
usual location), ~/.mozilla-thunderbird (the Debian-location),
~/mozilla/thunderbird (the future location, possibly) - in the order as
mentioned here.

Additionally, an evnrionment variable MOZILLA_THUNDERBIRD_PROFILE_ROOT is
evaluated (before the magic mentioned above). If it exists, it's used
(completely unchecked) as profile root.

Note that as a consequence, if a user has both ~/thunderbird and
~/mozilla-thunderbird on her system, the latter will never be found. However,
this should be a pathological situation, anyway.
