------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Aug 6 13:05:46 -0700 2006 ------- After more than twenty years of experience with linenumbering, using many different wordprocessors, I could you describe our workflow with the best implementation of linenumbering we've discovered until now (it's in wordperfect). For publication we have two (written by different persons) textcomponents, one component is a literal scientific text (with chapters, footnotes, endnotes etc.), the other are several transcripts from e.g. interviews, groupdiscussions etc. where linenumbering always starts from 1, font is monospaced etc. For publication we (and our readers ;-) don't want to have the whole transcripts in publication (they are simply too long), only parts are used (to document the empirical backround of the scientifc conclusions, more interested readers always can afford the whole transcripts). So we copy and paste into the literal scientific text only parts of the (linenumbered) transcript(s), assign (via keyboard shortcut) a style to the pasted component, then we open the linenumbering menue (linenumbering is already enabled in the style) and tell which number has to be the starting number for the component. Both steps have to be done whenever you insert another part of an transcript (otherwise formatting would be wrong and line numbering would start with the latest manually assigned starting linenumber). Maybe opinions and habits of layouters/software designers and writers/simple users are different. But in my (or better our) opinion and long-term experience all linenumbering options (regardless how they are implemented, regardless what options do exist) should be grouped. Having them in \format\paragraph\numbering or having them in \format\numbering isn't the question (both make sense), but please have only ONE menue point. So either move the (already existing) numbering options from \format\numbering to \format\paragraph\numbering, or move (and rename) the 'Numbering Tab' from \format\paragraph\numbering to \format\numbering. Or (and this was my idea in my first post) leave everything as it is and 'simply' add a checkbox (start line numbering with) and an entry field (5 digits should be enough) where the linenumber to start with can be entered in \format\numbering. Hope things are clearer now. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
