------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Aug 25 04:53:39 -0700 2006 ------- Thanks for the suggestions. You are correct with (1) - keeping CTRL held whilst clicking outside the protected content causes the tools to become re-enabled, however some of our indexes have _lots_ of entries containing "WinLims", so whilst this approach works it can be a long and painful process to de-select all of them. Regarding (3) & (4) - I've already looked at both these approaches. They work reasonably well when the content is being created from scratch (provided the various documentation writers can be trained to use them) but they suffer from two problems: 1) They don't work for text that already exists 2) They require the writer to interrupt their train of thought every time they want to enter the word "WinLims". Taking just one of our manuals as an example, the word "WinLims" occurs 419 times in 343 pages. We have several similarly sized manuals, most of them originally written using MS Word. Being able to easily select the non-protected text using Find & Replace would allow me to apply characters styles in all of these documents with ease. Whilst the primary purpose of the Find dialogue is finding the text, I would imagine that many people use the Find All option as a means of selecting text to modify subsequently. Therefore, despite these workarounds, I still feel that a means to ignore any protected text in the selection would be useful. But thanks for taking the time to make those suggestions. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
