a) I really dislike this tagging/untagging, too. Unfortunately I do not have a
better idea. I already put those files into 'cvsignore' but it did not help.
They got ignored by actions like 'cvs status', but not for 'cvs tag'. I do not
know whether that is a cvs feature or a bug of the specific client I use.

b) Those def files are used during linking. They somehow (Ause is the expert
here. The mechanism of using files committed to cvs allthough is older, I think
Martin Hollmichel once implemented it.) determine the order of symbols in the
library. Unfortunately on windows with work with symbol lookup by ordinals, not
by names. In order to keep builds compatible we have to preserve these ordinals.
Otherwise f.e. a svx library of my182 would export the same stuff as one of
m150, but at different ordinals, and by this would be incompatible. Everything
above had to be relinked. No problem for complete builds, but a stopper for
providing patches for old releases.
These usage of ordinals once was a performance issue. Nowadays it should be
possible to switch to symbols even on windows, but that would be a change for a
new code line, not for an evolving SRC680.

As I do not see a way of getting around tagging wntmsci* files I set this issue
to 'WONTFIX' and close it. Feel free to reopen if you have any better idea.
