Sorry for the delay. As for the first bit:

1. Open the database
2. "Create Query in Design View"
3. Add the table
4. Choose the field with the yes/no variable and drag it into the bottom half
5. The field correctly appears
6. according to the help, I should be able to add the criterion "= TRUE"
(without speech marks), but I get an error message "Warning! Error in SQL 
statement"

This means I cannot use the design view to create a query filtering based on the
yes/no [boolean] variable...
