I'll just add that MS-Word 2000 compares 2 documents perfectly, so it can't be impossible, but I don't know exactly how they do it. My intuitive guess is that they compare from the start of the documents AND from the end of them simultanously. Maybe it is somewhat like "bubble sorting" ... a kind of recursive routine?!
