I have been trying to compile and install Open Office 2.0.3 on BLFS system
using gcc-4.1.1.

The first time I tried it balked out on epm. As I have epm
installed, open office setup tried to package it with epm and epm
complained about the package name having characters other than letters
and numbers !!

I cleaned up the source tree and recompiled by specifying --disable-epm and
compiled it with in tree mozilla. It compiled successfully. Now, when I want
to installit, I see that there's no directory named OpenOffice under
instsetoo_native/unxlngi6 !! Now at this stage I really don't know how to
proceed. BLFS doesn't use any package management system. Hence, I expected
OpenOffice build to create a directory structure and leave all the necessary
files in there which, I could simply copy over to the destination and it would
just wor from there !

I tried a bit of googling but, it leads me to all irrelevant pages with most
of them centered on windows setup.

Fortunately enough, I stumbled upon a page on openoffice.org that
briefly summarizes the build process. From there I learned that, the
build process outputs all binaries, libs, includes etc. to the
directory solver. When I look into the directory solver/680/unxlngi6.pro, I do
see several directories - bin, lib, inc, rdb, res etc. Thses in turn hold the
libs and binaries etc. Now, I know where the finished product lies. What I'm
mused over is - when I copied the contents of this directory it didn't work.
It complained of missing localization files. So, it has to be different
directory setup, right ?

How do I create a tar.gz file or for that matter how do I tell build to create
the necessary directory structure and deliver all the files to the right
place ? And, then I simply copy it over to the destination.

I know, this whole thing has taken up a space of ~5GB and I don't know
where to look for the finished product. Is there a site where I can
see a list of all the files that will/should be installed ?

Here's how I ran the configure script:
----------------------------------------
export KDEDIR=/opt/kde-3.5.2  && ./configure
--prefix=/opt/openoffice-2.0.3 --enable-libart --disable-fontooo
--without-fonts
--with-system-stdlibs --with-system-freetype --with-system-expat
--with-system-libxml
--with-system-zlib --with-build-version=BLFS
--with-package-format=native --disable-binfilter
--enable-libsn --enable-kde --enable-build-mozilla --disable-epm
-------------------------------------------

Here's the last few lines from compilation output:

No EPM: do no packaging at this stage
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Out of the ~5GB of data churned out, I expect to install at least
~300MB but, dunno where it is and what it looks like !!

Can sombody please help me with this problem ?

Apologize for my ignorance if all this sounds stupid !

Thanks.

Kevin
