Syriac letters have four forms and some ligaturs, depending on the preceding and following letters and it is written from right to left. and you have diacritical signs. It is indeed similar to Arabic, which works very well in OOo. Syriac is working correctly in other editors on linux. The fonts are ttf. and you find them on http://www.bethmardutho.org/meltho. I have no programming knowledge and cannot be of help. Sorry.
