Review 26.11.2006
The fundamental problem appears to be an inability of the CREATE TABLE routine
in HSQLDB to access the necessary data to be able to create or copy a table. If
a table exists it is possible to add new fields and to delete existing fields,
but not to modify them.
This problem may have been present with the beta 1.9 versions, as I was unable
to explore HSQLDB at that time, although I never fully investigated this. It
has not been a problem with versions 2.0 to 2.03, but is a problem now with
version 2.04.
I have tried 2.04 on four different PCs. On two notebooks, one running Windows
Xp pro the other Windows Me, there appears to be no problem. On two desktops,
both running Windows Xp Home, one with an AMD Sempron processor, one with an AMD
64 processor, there is a problem with OOo 2.04 but not OOo 2.03. On the earlier
AMD Sempron PC I have removed nearly all the applications that might produce a
conflict, but I have not resolved the issue. [The remaining applications either
support hardware functions or are working harmoniously alongside OOo on one or
other of the notebooks.]
I can confirm that on one of the Desktops and the Xp notebook the hsqldb product
version is returned as 1.8.0 and that using the extended call procedure produces
an error message in both situations.
Any suggestions as to where to look next would be helpful. At least one other
user has had similar, although not necessarily identical, problems.
