(Preamble: This not only concerns Writer but also Draw etc. But I simply did not
know which of the "Components" offered by the selection table would fit best.
The problem is related to program/libips680ss.so.)
Unlike earlier versions, StarOffice 8 PU 4 (corresponding to OO 2.0.4) shows
real previews of imported EPS figures in the document. However, there are the
following problems. In Solaris 8 and 9, the program hang whenever a document
containing an EPS figure was opened or when a new EPS figure was to be imported
into an open document. Using ps and ptree, I found there was a pstoedit process
active then, with options -f emf, but our pstoedit was compiled without emf
support. Putting a symlink pstoedit -> /usr/bin/true into <SO8DIR>/program/
solved the issue, apparently using convert (from ImageMagick) then. Using truss,
I found that soffice tries pstoedit, convert, and gs. After disabling convert
(which also calls gs internally), gs was used directly, but the vertical scaling
of the figure was too small then. Likewise, after compiling pstoedit with emf
support and removing the mentioned symlink, the preview worked also, but again
with the wrong vertical scaling. From experimenting with pstoedit, I conjecture
that using options -f emf:-OO would help, but -f emf is hard-coded into
program/libips680ss.so. Please solve these scaling issues and warn the user on
installation that a pstoedit without emf support will cause trouble.
