Make a change to index.html (if you can't because it is readonly, chmod it so that you can write to it) 3. Commit the change to index.html 4. Check the permissions of index.html again. You will find that you cannot write to it any more. The permistions of the file will have been changed locally by the cvs commit such that you no longer can write to the file.
