User atdsm changed the following: What |Old value |New value ================================================================================ Status|REOPENED |RESOLVED -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keywords| |ms_interoperability, oooqa -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Resolution| |WONTFIX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Jan 12 07:00:48 -0800 2007 ------- I think the reason Excel and Calc treat empty cells as a "1" for the purposes of this function is that then it is possible to multiple an entire line of cells (eg =product(A1;B1;C1;E1) or =product(A1:G1) and not need to explicitly enter a "1" in all cells that you don't want to affect the calculation. Excel ignores empty cells. >From the Excel help for PRODUCT: "If an argument is an array or reference, only numbers in the array or reference are counted. Empty cells, logical values, text, or error values in the array or reference are ignored." I think "ignored" is the keyword, although I noticed that having all cells blank produces "0" in both Excel and Calc... go figure. Reclosing as WONTFIX and adding ms_interoperability as a keyword because this is an Excel compatibility issue. (If OOo did it differently, then it could break spreadsheets imported from Excel.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
