I think OOo is losing plenty of users in academia because of this. As long as you cannot use it to open manuscripts sent by other collegues, OOo seems useless (even just for printing such a document, all references are missing...). Even if the fields are lost, an import of the text of the fields as was done in version 1.1.5 of OOo would be more than appreciated.
