a user in a network I administer reported the following problem:
when pasting parts of web pages into a Writer document and then editing it (she
mentioned removing images and changing text size), all ooo windows freeze and
do not come back in an acceptable time frame (resulting in the application being
killed). Environment: openoffice.org 2.0.2 on ubuntu 6.06 x86 Desktop install,
AMD Sempron and 512 MB RAM

I was not able to determine whether the visible images, spacer gifs or other
parts of the webpage were the most problematic.I would expect ooo to load this
stuff in the background and give up after a short timeout in favor of deniyng
the user interactivity.

In my case the user only wants the text of the web page but has no choice but
dealing with all the complicated stuff when pasting (images, font, tables...) so
if there is a way to just get the text, it would liberate her from much work and
from the freeze-problem.

On a bigger scale, I expect openoffice writer not to behave like a browser at
all but instead make local copies of the images when the paste happens.
According to the way that users behave/react, I have to assume that they expect
this "offline behaviour" from a word processor and expect linked images which
are loaded from the internet only from a browser (or maybe also from a webpage
editor). So I suggest either making a separated webeditor component in
openoffice or an option that lets the users choose between "transform linked
objects to local copies" or "keep as links" with default="transform".
