“Correction to my remark #2 above:”
Selection the notes tab in presentation does not fix the copy function. But
copying a text from other text editors (ex. Notepad) and pasting it in any tab
in presentation works.

I also found the following 2 ways of working around the problem:

1) After copying the text from the source (OpenOfiice.org Writer), first create
a text box by clicking on the “T” button at the bottom of the page (if “T” is
not visible, make it visible by clicking the small arrow sign which is first
button from the right hand side of the bottom tool bar and then select “visible
Buttons” , then choose “T” (Text) so it would appear in the tool bar). Then
drag the mouse and create the box. After that immediately paste the text (by
ctrl-v for example). After dragging and creating the box, do not click any
where else since it causes the box to disappear in the destination page
(OpenOfiice.org Draw).

2) Copy and paste the text as you normally do. Then if the pasted text is not
complete, double click the box. Double clicking the box opens up the box as a
page in the text editor. You can adjust the box dimension here easily to
capture the whole text. Note that if you try to adjust the box size without
double clicking, it only changes the size of the pasted text
